Ahh, blogging!
You definitely went into your photographer career dreaming about writing blog posts late at night!
No?!
We start our businesses because we love the services that we offer. I went into content marketing because I love writing and strategy. I don’t love bookkeeping, taxes, graphic design, etc, but it’s needed for my business success.
Marketing can feel overwhelming and confusing with shiny object syndrome lurking behind every corner. Should you do social media ads? Go Live? Do you have to spend time making Reels?
I’ll continue to break down marketing for photographers through my blog but today I want to focus on a marketing strategy that’s still very important in 2021 and beyond; blogging.
Blogging is still critical for photographers for a number of reasons but I’m going to zero in on three that are important.
3 Reasons Why Photographers Need to Blog
These are just three of the many reasons why photographers still need to regularly blog. This marketing strategy isn’t going anywhere.
1.) SEO - SEO ( Search Engine Optimization) is how clients find you in search engines like Google. Something Google looks for when ranking search results is fresh, valuable content. This means adding keyword-rich content to your website at least once a month. Your blog is a fantastic way to achieve this goal.
2.) Social Content Gold Mine - Writing social media captions doesn’t have to be a slog! Your blog posts are rich with content to mine - NOT COPY. You don’t want to copy and paste sentences from your blog to throw on social media. That’s boring and tacky. Instead, take parts of your blog and reuse them for social content. If you have a blog post with what to wear for a session, grab a tip and reuse it for a post.
3.) Resource Building - Your blog is a valuable resource for future and current clients! Let’s say you have that blog about what to wear for your session, now you can send that to a potential client if they ask. Another way to maximize this resource is to use your blogs as part of your welcome email sequence when someone subscribes to your email newsletter.
How Often Do You Need to Blog?
Now that you’re back in on blogging, the next question is usually, “How much do I need to blog!?” Of course, this answer depends on your goals, but I usually recommend twice a month.
This fulfills the best practice for Google and provides you with ample content to recycle for social media. If you can create three captions from each blog post that’s six social media posts done for you!
